lake district Beginners navigation course
Learning to use a map and compass in the hills and mountains of the UK is a basic skill that any hill walker, climber or fell runner should have. The weather on our little island is unpredictable to say the least, and being able to figure out where you are from just the contours of the land, or navigate a safe route to a summit in the thick cloud is essential. Mountain rescue teams are reporting that they are being called to more and more incidents where people are just relying on technology which has failed, and they have no map and compass.
My Lake District navigation courses are designed for people with little or no prior navigation experience, who want to learn to become self sufficient in the hills and mountains of the UK and a confident navigator using a map and compass. We will have a full day out in the fells no matter the weather so pack your wet weather gear. I can supply you with a compass if you don’t already have one, all you need to bring is the appropriate 1:25000 OS Explorer map.
